Trauma-Sensitive Podcast Editing

Your story deserves more than a technically perfect edit.

Podcast editing is often approached as a process of removing.

Cut the pauses, tighten the conversation, eliminate the stumbples, keep things moving.

But when a podcast explores personal stories, health, trauma, grief, identity, recovery or other sensitive subjects, those same editings decisions can affect much more than pacing.

What does trauma-sensitive editing mean?

There isn't one editing formula that works for every person or every conversation.

For some clients, a long pause is something they'd like removed. For another, that pause may communicate someting important important.

A vulnerable disclosure might make an episode incredibly powerful.

Trauma-sensitive editing recognizes that distinction.

Depending on your needs, my editing process can include:

  • Preserving intentional pauses, breaths and emotional space

  • Taking additional care around vulnerable or personal disclosures

  • Flagging sensitive moments for review before publication

  • Avoiding edits that unintentionally alter meaning or emotional context

  • Honoring requests to remove sensitive material after recording

  • Establishing editing boundaries and preferences before production begins

  • Giving hosts and guests greater control over how vulnerable conversations are presented

  • Creating a polished episode without removing the humanity from it

This isn't about leaving everything in. It's an approach built around you.

Trauma-sensitive doesn't mean unedited. It means I listen to what you really need from this episode.

Beautifully paced and engaging to watch or listen to.

Edited by humans. For humans.

Intuitively knowing when to make cuts and when to keep it in.

My background and approach.

I believe transparency matters, particularly when using language like "trauma-informed."

I am a professional podcast producer, not a trauma therapist or clinician, and I don't hold a specific certification in trauma-informed podcast editing.

My understanding of trauma-sensitive practice is informed in part by my training as a certified yoga teacher, which included education in trauma-informed practices, as well as years of producing highly personal conversations in the health, wellness and human performance space.

For me, offering trauma-sensitive editing isn't about claiming expertise outside my profession. It's about applying principles of choice, communication, collaboration and respect within the area where I do have expertise: podcast production.
